Wessely "A memorial to Vinzenz Malsiner"

At the Wessely Tower in the Sassolungo Group; in the Southwest Face.

First ascent: 14 th August 1998 with Hubert Moroder (at the third attempt).
When you climb this route you have to cross some overhanging cracks. The rock is sometimes brittle.
Height of the wall: about 350 m
Rope pitches: 11
Grade of difficulty: 8 th (one rope pitch has to be climbed free)

One day in summer we were sitting at the Rifugio Vicenza and were watching this wall with its routes, new and old ones. In the middle of the wall there was an overhanging part crossed by an oblique crack that nobody had climbed yet. That’s why we wanted to try a first ascent. We dedicated this route to Vinzenz Malsiner, a great local alpinist, mountain guide and member of the Catores who died on June 24 th 1998 shortly before completing this route.

Descent: first towards east through a channel that brings you to the “ Normal Route ” of the Sassolungo.
